If you're a teacher, you can tell when kids are copying off each other. Those kids are not learning, they're 'cheating' or 'failing' at school. Those kids should be taught how to think and synthesize for themselves. I, for one, was one of the students who did not copy from people, but I would get ideas from novels I read from looking at the world (being mainly an introvert). I was sometimes accused of copying and I used to receive low grades for having my own ideas instead of adhering to the teacher. As I grew up, I learned that to get good grades, you had to do what teachers TOLD you to do. This is not learning. This is conditioning and this is horrible. This is a personal view but I think:
People who copy, people who cheat and don't care about being in school SHOULD FAIL.
Fuck them. It just makes more room in society for people who like to use their brains.
People who are original in their thoughts should be considered more with POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT instead of being chastized for not 'following the system'. If this is you, don't stop. Get those 60's, but keep being yourself and thinking your own thoughts. All thoughts meet up in the end, even the weird one's ;)
Teachers who are enforcing 'the system' FUCK YOU. Especially high school gym teachers. (I have to admit, I had also an AWESOME gym teacher in primary, but I was was 'good' back then though, when 'good' meant you tried and were rewarded and made you actually like it.
Gym classes are elitist and negative. There, people who are proud of being in the system demonstrate how well they can lick ass. Gym teachers are just grown up kids like that who are now abusing of the system in order to power trip hard on the fact that they aren't actually teachers and their attitude problems are extremely negative and horrible. In high school, I had four gym teachers, all of whom had either a mental distability, a social power trip sociopathic tendency, or were so engrained in the system you could hear and smell it in their aura. Fuckers. They don't care for the brain, for the intellect, they obsess over the body like it's a God-given gift. Shut up. Sit down, shut up, stop screaming and pushing us past our limits. (I respect people who aren't in the system and who like 'physical exercize' that's Awesome! I love biking and swimming! But gym CLASS. More like Torture Time, no thanks. Not ruled by Frollo-like totalitarian disciplinaries.
You know what education gives you, ladies and gentlemen, it gives you all of what I'm doing now. The intelligence and courage to stand up to all the shit that's happened in your life, to graduate from University with the power and knowledge to take down the systematic shit that's been controlling you and tapping into your self-esteem only to violently destroy it. *Sigh* So yeah, STAY IN SCHOOL, but USE YOUR BRAIN. Be open about everything and skeptic about everything. That's what I was. I knew who the good teachers were. I listened to them. Find the real authority, the teachers who have something useful and smart to say. Usually, those people wear what they want, look kind of whack (aka awesome). High school teachers especially the young women ones, who wear fancy clothes and act cold to get attention from boys because they RAVISH on the fetishized thought of fucking them, stay away from that. Ugh, I'm thinking of one in particular. *shivers*
So, yeah, thoughts. Thanks so much for following! Please feel free to comment! I have to write a paper about Sea Peoples now. -_- It's sort of hard. But I'll learn something useful. :P See ya!!
Character of the Day
Rodney
Appearances:Spaced (2014)
Bio: Rodney might be his meth name, or his real name, but it's a weirdly Anglo name for a Franco from Downtown Sherbrooke. Rodney lives with Sélèna, a fellow addict in a 3 and a half on Alexander street and only really leave to get food and get meth from Derrick. Rodney and Selena are not really dating, not really fucking, not really anything, but they're together and they're 'enjoying' their lives by fantasizing about a better world, the world that they know they will never have due to being dropped out of UdeS and Bishop's. Rodney and Selena don't really get along. They seem, however, to know Ace and Arianne quite well. A past of their ties them together intricately, intimately, intriguingly.
If you look at the demographic of primary and secondary students, the vast majority of them will go on to do jobs that do not (and rather discourage) creativity, critical thinking, etc. I think this is why primary and secondary schools reinforce conformance and taking simple orders from your boss...erm, teacher, and producing the exact same thing as all of your colleagues, erm...classmates.
ReplyDeleteAnd while this is all purely my opinion, I would think that society would become dysfunctional if we had too many creative intellects. The old saying goes: Someone needs to pump your gas and bag your groceries.
We are conditioned to be able to perform simple tasks and extrinsically motivated through financial incentive (or, in school, through grades).
Classical conditioning models are used in schools because schools want to create a nice standard normal curve with a standard deviation placed in such a way that only a small percentage of people end up with jobs that require: non-linear, creative thinking. Studies have shown that creativity stems from introverts. Therefore, schools enforce extroversion and there is something 'wrong' with you if you are introverted. -_____-.
If it was in the government's interest to have far fewer simple jobs like assembly lines, then it could easily change the education system to reflect this which would change the standard normal curve of creative people.
Gym is a cluster-fuck of shit. Purely biased, but that is how I feel. Gym teachers have a great job, but they do not do a great job. I would not even call them teachers because that would imply that they teach, which, I have found that they do not really do this. I am just glad I never have to take one of these courses ever again...ever. Also, fuck the cross-country run.
There is certainly a certain amount of elitism in gym courses. Especially when various coaches are involved and all the politics that go with gym class.
A big problem with gym classes is the clustered nature of it. The problem with this is it follows a bell shaped standard curve, as with any cluster. Therefore, students are expected to at least perform at the average level or greater. This means all students that fall below the mean suffer. Students that are 1 standard deviation above them mean or more (jocks, and the like) do not need to be there. Intellects, who are often stereotyped as being less physically adept, which is absolutely fine, end up just lagging and feeling like shit.
The simplest solution that is used in a lot of statistics is simply to create a group distribution. Grouped by a fair categorization process that would allow gym tea...coaches to at least cater activities to the group's needs. Gym classes group by year rather than by level of physical fitness adeptness or even dexterity to perform a physical task.
Think of it in a typical academia setting: I take all students in a University. I put them in 1 large classroom. This would have a normally distributed math skill level. So I take a list of all math courses available at the University. I pick the one that would be average in difficulty. Say we have: Precalculus, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus. We pick the middle one to teach to all the university students.
The amount of learning / success will basically be the same as your typical gym class. Differential Calculus requires precalculus, but a good chunk of your sample will not have ever taken it, so they will do poorly. Those that have taken precac have a good chance of passing. Those who have taken Integral or taken differential calc already will almost certainly pass.
This proves why gym is basically useless for students who fall below the normalized average of the group.
Can the government address that? I would think so. Will the government address that? Hell no. While it maximizes potential, this is NOT what primary and secondary schools are designed for IMO.
Phew that was long hahah.
Very nice! Thank you so much for sharing! You would find lots of interesting things about Philosophy of Education, especially by JJ Rousseau's works. I agree totally! We just need a good reform, but until the nation is still under an oppressive rule, we can't do much. America needs a new Al Gore, canada a new Jack Layton R.I.P. my sweet angel!
