Blog #97--The Problems with Buddhism--

Before you can say anything, I'm going to let you know if you don't know already that I'm not here to BASH Buddhism. I've just had an undegraduate course in the subject and I have seen all the facades of this religion/way of life. I am a Religion Honours and I'm very capable of having a valid opinion/basis about Buddhism.

Buddhism is beautiful. It really is. It has philosophies such as 'living in the present' and 'not expecting anything out of anyone'. It is a introspective religion, where one focuses most of their energy on the self, or should I say... no-self. Buddhism does not believe that a body and a soul are an existing this. The body yes is on earth, but there is no such thing as a soul, as a self-identity. This is not a problem; it's an opinion. This is totally fine; if you want to believe this, go right ahead! I also think that meditation is very great for those who enjoy doing it. I don't, but some people might more than me.

The one problem that I found with Buddhism and it ruins the ride for me, really. Desire.
In Buddhism, the greatest suffering (is life) and then it is desire.
For sure, people desire and therefore expect, but really, there is NOTHING WRONG with desiring something. I want to write my blog right now. Can't I? Why do I have to live my life without ever wanting something? Buddhism is based off being altruistic toward others as well, and by being so, one receives good feelings and good karma. BUT, you WANT to help someone because you WANT that good karma, those good feelings.
Desire is the basis of change. If your climate becomes too cold to live in, you will WANT to move away. Without the desire to move and change, you will die. I know, you could argue that this 'kind' of 'desire' is not the same, but think about it. We have the capability TO desire something, because we are great apes with much intelligence, such beauty! To refuse desire is to lower the human for what it can do, what it has the potential of doing.
I agree that desiring the world, wealth, and all those cardinal vice things are a bit pushed and not healthy, but to desire a good day, to desire eating chocolate cake, to desire graduating from university is perfect and very normal and human. This is my main problem with Buddhism, that is lowers the human potential.

Apart from that, (and a few other things here and there), Buddhism is beautiful. Peace, love, attention, present-living, true love there, not 'love', it's all there, it's all real. Karma is real too, totally. I believe it. You can agree or disagree, that's totally fine and normal, and human. Go ahead, I' m ready.

Character of the Day:
Ronald Bell

Appearances: Wedding Bells (tentative title)
Bio: Ronald and his brother King move to Whitecrest in search of a new life. Ronald is the eldest brother of the two, who has always gotten the bigger bedroom, new clothes, the first to own a car, etc. It's very typical, but Ronald was also the first to experience the dark side the brothers have explored in their lives. King watches him in his exploits, learned from seeing the things that Ronald was forced to experience first, being the older brother. Ronald ended up studying in medicine until he was rejected into med school for having low grades. It did not stop him from doing the things he liked to do. Ronald gardens for a hobby and enjoys cooking and taking it easy.

Thanks for reading!! :D
