Blog #67--Pesticides and Organic Fruits--

I never had any allergies to fruits or vegetables my whole entire life. Okay, maybe the occasional kiwi was a bit acid on my lips, and peach fuzz and pineapple, but it was always those three. And then, last year, I was suddenly allergic to every single fruit I would buy at my local grocery story. Why? I didn't know at first. I would eat a banana, an apple, anything and my throat would swell, my whole mouth would become red and it would itch really badly. What was it? Well, I never found out. I was wonderging had it been about pesticides, or was it GMO's? Oh, and watermelon was the worst! I almost went into anapheleptic shock (I butchered that word, I'm sorry :P). So, what was it? I tried going for organic. Right? No pesticides! Yeah, WRONG. The same redness and swelling. Frustrated, I decided it was me. I was weak and I had some problems with my health. I did go lactose intolerant near that time as well, so it would make sense. However, I spoke to a few people here and there and they told me that they had also developped a redding swell when eating grocery-store fruits, (I bought mine at Provigo). Now, it's gone, but I can't help but think that there might have been someting in the fruits, coming from God-knows where in the world. Considering pictures like this:

...with a touch of humour, of course, but still! It's true! Why can't you breath in pesticides, but you can eat them? And when you spray a bud with it, it grows INTO the fruit, so don't give me that bullshit that you can 'wash your fruit' to remove the pesticide, they're inside of it. It's just frustrating for people who want to eat well because local markets can be rather sparse, especially in a town like Lennoxville, for students who don't own cars. And what's this about bananas going extinct? In 10 years, there will be no more bananas, says this link, and it's been on food shows: http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?id=7715. So we're going to let bananas die out but we're going to keep an extremely high class of people earning way too much money and hording it all for themselves. My mother was also speaking to me about a movement back in the 90's that was called something like 'voluntary minimalism' where people would go back to living a very minimalistic life where all needs were met and most wants were met as well, due to their lack of extravagance and higher knowledge. The more we are closer to the earth, the more we can feel the world for all that it has to give us. Let us go back to this way of life, where we eat fresh, homegrown food, not ask for too much, and if we do make more money, put it into the education of our children, so that they too can become aware of this world that we live in. Pass down the knowledge, the green ways, and let us hope that when we leave, we will not leave our children with a world that is grey and gold, but that is green, red, purple, blue, pink, magenta...
