Blog #38 --Harlequin; How to Write a Harlequin Romance --

I swear, writing a romance novel is the worst thing is the world. Not because I have to stick to a mold, no because it's so... ugh! CHEESY! Or something... despite the dark fairy tale plot that's behind the story... I can't seem to be lively and imaginative to create dialogues that aren't always 'I love you' and 'let's be together forever' without wanting to gag. Someone help! :P Also, I have a new fan! Welcome, Guillaume, to my realm and universe! :) Over 1000 pageviews too, like wow! Thanks! :) I have no idea where they're from and all, people I guess, looking for me. So yeah, been rewriting and writing La Marquise, a wonderful and terrifying story, and I love and I love the characters but... it's hard to write, you have no idea. Okay, apart from that, I was called Chloe McAllinway today, on my cookie-gram that the Sigs gave me. They're so sweet! :3 It's official, that's my last name now :P Also been noticing that my characters have gotten less and less extravagant, lol my fave ones have been picked already and the others I don't want to spoil all! :P Okay, I'll do a random one :)

Update: Might as well talk about writing a Harlequin Romance. Ok, so there's this huge HUGE market for harlequin romance, and usually (don't follow what I write like if you want to be published) you have to fit in a very strict mould. So, this is what you need:
A strong female character who is usually a virgin or not used to sex and who is perhaps either very rebellious, jealous or scared of her newly wed-husband (whom she hates)
A mean male character who will become nice because of the woman in the later chapter
Another female character used to seduce the male character
A male character to support the other male and tell him wisdom
A high maid and other maids to support the rich female protagonist

Setting: God, somewhere effing romantic. Somewhere in the country, secluded, with beautiful sceneries and sunset. In a villa, castle, big mansion, somewhere big. Horses and cats help make the woman feel comfortable. Have the woman do something crazy like go out at night to skinny dip because it reminds her of something forbidden that she used to do as a child or something, but never something taboo.

Avoid taboos. No homosexuality, incest, things that would make a reader uncomfortable. The target audience is women ages 30-70. So, be considerate. The male's bad-assitude should also not include lots of violence. Bondage is acceptable though, because that's hot for a lot of people (not me though) ugh I had to pull myself through half-way of Fifty Shades of Grey, and I was like shoooootttt meeeeeeeeeee!!

So that's the mould, around. I'm bored now of writing. If you want to know more about the mould, write to Harlequin. The head chief editor (she's really nice) I missed her from like days when I went to do my internship. I hope she's going to come back. Have fun writing!! :)

Character of the Day:
Lowell

Appearances: Scream Wolf, Shambles.
Bio: Lowell's parents die of a disease that should have taken him with them, only his unnatural resistance to disease saved him and made him realize that he's different than the other people of the village, but not so different than three other boys who are like him. He feel undying fraternal love toward his 'brother' Liux, who is the Alpha Male of the three boys, whose genes mutated into the first Earthly Werewolves. Their blood is black as night and they are the ancestors of large names like Maurice Chavanon. Lowell takes care of the dairy farm and his 'brothers' help him once in a while with the beyls (bails) of hay. Lowell falls in love with Eluvia, Liux's sister, whom Connor preys upon.
