Blog #43 --Vegan Options and Problems--

So you've decided to be vegan.
That's a big step and there are barely any worries that go with that. However, one must be careful. It's difficult to go from drinking milk and eating cheese to drinking soy or almond milk and 'faux-mage' as we say here in French Land. :P jk jk.

I found myself developping a small lactose intolerance this summer and went on soy milk, which ended up also causing me to have digestional problems. I talked with someone who was 'more vegan than me' and found out that a lot of people have intolerances to soy after being weaned off milk. Almond Milk, however, does not have that issue, and is actually healthier for you because it contains those good fats a person needs to injest in a day.

Yes, you need fat. You actually need fat to hold your eyeballs in your eyesockets, well... in the most extreme scenario. Fat is also very needed in the growth of teenagers. I remember being a bit chubby when I was a teen and when I passed the 20-year stage of my life (which is still the stage, lol) I leaned out and found myself full of energy when it came to doing exercize. I go up a huge hill everyday, but for those who are not so motivated about going to the gym, remind yourselves: it's now or never. Especially under the age of 18. Losing weight is not important as much as maintaining a weight you find comfortable and that is healthy. Women, screw that whole height vs weight balance crap. I find myself really lean and quite fit and I'm still pounds over what I 'should be'. I don't even understand.

Going vegan is a good way to lose excess fat, because you are cutting down red meat, which is very fat. I remember this quote from my Food Fitness teacher in CEGEP (which is like a college for Quebec people) 'If it runs, eat it.' Cows, do they run? Nuh-hun. But still, as I've said before, they're nothing wrong with enjoying a slab of delicious steak once in a while. Also! You can totally go half-vegan. I enjoy eating vegan options because of the healthiness and all, but I still eat meat, because I love it! Afraid of trying a recipe because it involves chicken? No problem! Replace it with tofu! Don't like tofu? 'Faux' meat is available, and isn't more expensive than buying real ground beef. It's usually tofu, but prepared to taste much better than just regular white, bland tofu. Don't be afraid to try new vegetables that you see on special at your supermarket! Read online how to cook them and try. Taste life, for all that it has to give you! :)
If you have any questions or want ideas for delicious, easy, not expensive vegan recipes, contact-me, it'll be a pleasure to give you real person advice. Yes, I'm actually a real person. Is that weird? It's weird... weird.... :P

Character of the Day:
Frederic Mulligan

Appearances: Puzzle Days
Bio: Fred is part of the 'status' at Standrome Academy. He 'rules' the school with Greg Flanders and Theodore Broadway. He plays football as quarterback, goes out with a pretty girl from the girl's side and lives a life that other boys dream of having. But Fred is secretly living a lie, like most of the people at Standrome do (because they're all rich kids :p, which I have nothing against, because this is like a parody book). Fred enjoys pulp fiction, and is completely jealous of all the rugby players because he wishes he could be part of their closely-knit friendship. He dislikes his 'girlfriend' who is very dumb and doesn't understand his many rejections to be a sign of his un-lovingness. Fred stands up to people, and no matter what, will protect his friends from injustice and harm. Yes, he's human, and only in this book.
