So what is consumerism? It is a social and economic order that encourages the purchase of goods and services in excess amounts. For example:
Today's appliances are made to break. It's true. People avoid thinking it and they still spend and spend each year on new appliances because the last one is truly finished. The companies admitted it too, it's not a myth. They make things so that they break. This is a huge problem in our society because of all the waste this used cheap metal alloy, and plastic is making. Let me tell you something: you're moving out, go to a bunch of old appliance stores or flea markets and find yourself an old toaster from the 70's. It doesn't work anymore? That's fine! It's probably just a wire. Bring it to a small appliance mecanic and they'll fix it up in no time! (Unless there's a 30year old part missing, then that sux). But seriously, NEVER invest in something cheaply made, you're only sinking your feet deeper into the system, into a government that is based on making huge amounts of profit for the benefit for a single few individuals.
At one point, we have to stop and think: What is a human made for? What are we really capable of? Well the answer might be scary for some: we are limitless. Not in life, but in production, in capability and it's time to stand up and realize our full potential. Do you really need a car? Do you really need a cellphone? Did you know that in Quebec, 18% of people in my age group DO NOT have a cell phone?
Cellphones, ah... what a clever device. Perhaps yes, for the modern extrovert, who is very much into social communication, meeting new people, conversing... wait... something's wrong. Indeed, the extroverts of twenty years ago, who used to meet everywhere to share everything, are now the introverts who do not rely on technology to satisfy each and every one of their giddy, urgent needs. The sound of a vibrating text has become an alarm to the people of my age group (18-25) as powerful as a baby's cry to a mother. We rush to the object in order to satisfy it, calm it, as it calms us in return, a play on power that is controlled by the people who are pulling hundreds out of your pockets every year. We've entered a world of mass spending and we don't even realize it.
This is a trailer to Michael Moore's: Capitalism: A love story (ha ha) not! It's very interesting what people do while they are in the system in order to make everyone else's lives miserable. You tend to hate the (American) government after you watch this. I'm lucky not to live in this, but unfortunately, I live with Pauline Marois... Why did you have to die, Jack? We all loveddd youuuuu!!!! :( R.I.P. Jack Layton.

Character of the Day:
Maurice Chavanon aka Chief
Appearances: Maurice, Santa Forgives, Shambles, Pillow Talk, Needle and Chain, Ashenlust, Faceless, Needle and Thread.
Bio: Chief is the perfect example of someone who never follows the rules and does things to gratify his being. He and other great Vampires and Werewolves got together and created the Jericho Republic. He set a code of Werewolves for all members of the burocracy and then he went off and did whatever he wanted, breaking his own rules here and there. He understands that there needs to be control and concerning Vampires and supernatural beings, it has to be more autocratic than anything else. Chief is one of personal favourites. He learns German just to help save numerous (mostly children) from going to concentration camps during WWII. He's just great!!
